Guiding poll regarding seniority
We will send out a separate email next week with a complete description and a poll where you can notify us of your preferred method of dealing with seniority for future positions.
MPD arbitration court case
58 pilots sued the company at the Arbitration Court (Voldgiftsdomstol) for breach of the MPD during the rehiring of pilots when CPH reopened after the pandemic. The pilots won this case and the court found that the MPD was breached. NPU has not been involved in this court case and Parat will send out more information soon.
Incident MOL
We are very glad that the runway excursion in Molde ended well. There is no doubt that it was an experience that was neither pleasant at the time nor easy to handle afterward. We are all part of an operation that is sometimes managed with very narrow margins.
There are rumors circulating that a "Go Around" was called, which is incorrect. We therefore strongly urge that rumors be put aside and that everyone waits for the official report, which probably will provide lessons for all of us. The stress on those involved is already more than significant, and false rumors among our colleagues are unnecessary!
The flight was stabilized, and the correct calculations were made, but it was, among other factors, significantly more slippery than reported. All of this will be detailed in due time.
NPU has done its best to support the cockpit crew and has also greatly benefited from Pilotforbundet’s Emergency Response Plan, which is ready for activation in case of an incident. Updates are now being made to this plan, and it will be more accessible to everyone should an incident occur in the future.
IOCC
We have received some reports about issues where extension was added to flights on the day of operation, and not at the planning stages as required. This was, according to IOCC, a fault in the system that was visible to the crew on the IADP app. It is concerning that these kinds of errors can happen and we will discuss this matter with the company at our next meeting.
Make sure that you keep track of your duty time and stay within legal limits. If you encounter any issues please file a report in SafetyNet and a copy to NPU.
Salary issue
We have received some feedback that the company has issued contracts for Arlanda where the “salary month” (opprykksmåned) has been adjusted to the start date in ARN. This is not correct. There is an agreement that the salary month is the initial start month in a Norwegian company. This rule applies as long as there is continuous employment between contracts.
If you have been issued a contract with an incorrect pay level or salary month please email HR and copy Lars Rønnov and NPU.
Appendix E: Selling days off
Please keep in mind that the new regulation describing selling days off is now in effect from January 1st. This means that a pilot can sell a maximum of 2 days off per month (100% and 80%) and 1 day off per month (60% and 50%).
Check the text in the CLA for more detailed information. It is expected that each pilot abides by the restriction and keeps a track of their sold days to not breach the CLA. NPU also gets an overview each month of the sold days.
Leave of Absence (LOA)
As mentioned in the previous newsletter the company wants to offer unconditional leave of absence to be able to fill captain positions in Riga. The unions are not agreeing to this since there is no CLA in place with competitive terms and conditions. Agreeing to LOA will undermine the job that the Latvian Aviation Union is doing in getting a CLA in place.
The company has disregarded the unions and decided to offer LOA to pilots accepting a contract in Riga. We will pursue this with our legal team.
Hotel and crew food
We still get reports about sub-standard hotels and crew food. It is important that you file a report (copy NPU) when you experience this. We bring up each case with the company.
The hotel we use in Luleå, Quality Hotel, will be renovated. Unfortunately the company chose to change the hotel to Scandic Hotel even though we did not accept that as a substitute during the renovation. On the 1st of February (at the latest), we will move to Elite Hotel Stadshotellet during the renovation period.
New mandatory courses (Avinor course)
New courses keep coming up and there is a disagreement with the company if these courses should be rostered as a CBT or not. Currently the new Avinor course (to extend ID card) will not be rostered. It is expected that you will do this on your days off. We will continue to discuss this topic with the employer.
Deduction in Pension
We have received multiple reports from colleagues regarding a pension deduction in their accounts for December. We have contacted the company for an explanation and are awaiting their response.
Split duty, day room
10.2.9 Split duty, day room.
For split duty with a break of more than 4 hours from block-on to block-off, a dayroom must be booked at a hotel. It is encouraged to cancel if you do not need a day room.
